River Mills Assisted Living at Chicopee Falls

Chicopee, MA

River Mills is a high-quality assisted living and memory support community that reflects the personal charm and history of Chicopee, Massachusetts. In addition, it offers longer term affordability to its residents that other communities don’t.

For Western Builders, this project was especially important because we knew the impact the project held for the City of Chicopee. River Mills Assisted Living would be the second development on a former brownfield site in the heart of downtown – once the site of Uniroyal and FaceMate. Like many other cities in the area, Chicopee’s heyday was decades ago when there was an abundance of manufacturing. The departure of manufacturing – and the jobs and economic stimulus connected to it – have greatly affected Chicopee and the adjacent cities of Holyoke and Springfield. The City of Chicopee has been working tirelessly for the last 20+ years and has made remarkable progress in cleaning up the site and bringing revitalization back to the area. The development of the River Mills community provided clear proof of the success of this initiative.

Opening its doors in Fall 2019, the 77,200 sq ft River Mills Assisted Living community features thoughtfully designed spaces for residents to enjoy life to its fullest.  Amenities that were designed into the construction includes community areas for socializing, theater and media room, dining hall, fitness center, pub, library, salon, music room, game room, garden room, and more. The community includes 95 residential units: 73 apartments for assisted-living, and 22 apartments for memory support residents. Apartment offerings include studio or one-bedroom floorplans, all with private bathrooms and kitchenettes.

With the project complete, the city’s hope is that River Mills will be the catalyst that draws future developments to the site; ultimately leading to full redevelopment of a prominent area of the city that for too long was a painful reminder of what once was.
